I repurposed an old samsung s3 for my efb, but even an ancient google nexus 9 will run the android efbs just fine I'm going to buy one for my open cockpit to run ifly when i get closer to completing it. If you are in the google ecosystem for work, nonprofit, or personal reasons, the android efbs will work well
Put one copy on a tablet and one on your phone and you are covered with and without wifi access for planning. It's primary market is commercial drone operators That happens with android, too, but there's an expectation of longer legacy support — i'm still running garmin pilot in my plane on a nexus 7 tablet (released 2013) running android 6 (2015)
It's a bit slow starting up — no surprise for a tablet that retailed for $100 7 years ago — but it still does ok.
I am considering a samsung tablet but from what i was reading ( up to oct 2021) the android version of garmin pilot is far behind the apple software and not worth running on an adroid Does anyone have recent experience with the current version of garmin pilot android? So a month ago i brought the samsung galaxy tablet, which i love (it got garmin pilot, sporty's e6b and my aircraft's checklist and poh on it), however, i can't seem to find a kneeboard for the tablet They all seem to be for the ipad only
Any samsung galaxy user ever find a kneeboard for. The samsung tablets are good, but the aviation community seems to have jumped on the nexus 7 with a fervor They have all the needed hardware (then some), are cheap, and aren't loaded with a bunch of crapware. The huawei m5 is a beast of a tablet with an incredible screen.
That tablet had less memory than our newer tablet and i tried the option to store on external sd card but it locked up one day downloading sectionals so i stopped doing that
Now we're running pilot 6.0.2 on a galaxy tab s2 8, this setup is awesome! 10 flights so far on this setup. I try to avoid apple products for their cheaper alternatives I run garmin pilot on a samsung tablet and am reasonably happy
Like others have said, android updates can cause issues Just this weekend, i could not get gp to overlay an approach on the map My only option was to pull the chart up in charts. I have two android efbs installed on my aviation tablet (currently a galaxy tab s5e, after retiring my galaxy tab s3)
The tripltek 8 pro is an android tablet that is made to be sunlight usable and heat tolerant that some are switching to in preparation for the efb upgrade, better visibility and won't crash in the heat
