I have a single car garage with a sectional overhead door, i have space on one stucco wall for a 24 x 75 pedestrian door Is the step still a requirement and if so is there a minimum dimension? Will that size be acceptable since it is not the main egress door?
Because this garage is over 1,000 sf it falls outside the scope of a private garage and is, for code purposes, a public garage I saw the opening penetrations r302.5 & garage section r309 The diagram shows a section view of a draft of my new home
Cars will enter the two car garage towards you, over a 4' frost wall
There are two sections of 4' frost wall that extend on each end of the full height foundation wall on the left, and there are 4' frost walls at the rear of the. In the picture provided, i would say that is still a single portal frame opening I think the intent was to prevent two portal frames immediately adjacent to each other using a common header I would not interpret measuring from overhang
Any other comments on that I'll probably stay 5' back The area where the two structure meet is only about 30 of wall length, but there is a window in the garage in that 30. Does a detached accessory structure, such as a garage, require a man door, or is the overhead door sufficient?
A detached garage is not going to require egress in the same manner as a habitable space
How do you egress out of a garage itself? Codes do not permit duct openings in a residential attached garage, for obvious reasons I ran across one yesterday where it appears that the contractor is placing an air handler in a garage under living space Irc the building code requires that a garage floor be sloped towards the door, but does not specify a minimum slope
It is usually 1/8” to 1/4” per foot Here is the citation from the international residential code (irc) The area of floor used for parking of automobiles or other vehicles shall be sloped to facilitate the movement of liquids to a drain or toward the main vehicle. I do not see anywhere in the irc 2015 that requires a step from the garage into the house
