I’m in kyoto for a couple more days and wanted to ask what was the best thing you had here So to the native japanese ear, what gives it away that someone is from kyoto? My friends and i love food and have been eating our way around town

We aren’t really into gourmet dining or kaiseki meals I couldn't find any phonetic examples when i searched google, the osaka accent has been easier to pin point We’d love some recommendations and to hear what good stuff you’ve had

So far, my favorites in kyoto have been chao chao gyoza and menya inoichi.

A subreddit dedicated to residents of kyoto to discuss daily life. 5 days in kyoto or 5 days in kansai For kyoto itself, i think 5 days is a reasonable amount of time, but if you're using it as a base for kansai i would recommend at least a couple more for at least day trips to nara, osaka, and himeji (possibly with kobe) For kyoto itself, i answered almost this exact question a couple of years ago in this post

I do not recommend treating this like a check. The small downside, i think, is that to get anywhere else often requires getting back to kyoto station which is an additional hop And i dunno what airbnbs are like these days (heh, i'm probably overthinking any potential changes in the last year). The only kyoto spot that you need to see is fushimi inari (did you even go to kyoto if you didnt take a picture of the tori gates?) go early morning to fushimi inari, climb the mountain and go down the other side, stop at the shop selling amasake and just chill out.

Seen a lot of comments along the lines of kyoto is dead at night, there's no nightlife in kyoto etc

Just wanted to get some clarification on whether this is specifically referring to the club/concert/dance scene, or more general like the shops, restaurants, bars and attractions Looking for good local eats instead of the high population of tourist restaurants.
